A bold request
A friend of mine’s mom is battling cancer. She is not doing well, and they are going to try an alternative treatment center. It is not cheap. If you can, please spare a little money. Even if you can’t, please spare some prayers and good thoughts their way. If I have learned anything over the past two weeks, it’s that no one deserves to lose a parent in the prime of their lives....

Medic: I'm trying to put this delicately...how do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?
Mal: Son, you don't know me, so I will explain this once. If I kill you, you will be awake. You will be facing me. And you will be armed.
Medic: Are you always this sentimental?
Mal: Had a good day.

freedom within fences
last month, I wrote up an idea I had for a talk at a local conference, Greenville Grok. I did not get to deliver it (that pleasure fell to my knight in shining armor, Ev) but did want to flesh it out a little online. The topic was on tumblr’s “new” stance on blogs that glorify self-destruction. As today marks 7 years that i’ve been self-injury free personally (cue party hat...

I just attended the best passion of the Christ play. As they were “nailing” Jesus to the cross the entire thing broke. No one knew what to do and it got quiet. Finally one of the guards on stage said “You get out of it this time Jesus”

as someone who knows next to nothing about conceiving, designing, developing, producing, or anything other than using apps, i really found it interesting.

Lets face it,…

“Life is a package deal. It comes with The Sadness…if you want to feel better, you have to be willing to be ridiculous. Take out your Sad Fish, put glasses and a hat on him, and dance with his short rubbery little arms in yours. Carpe Sad Fish! Later he’ll be so tired you will have an hour of peace…”

thankfully, the man in my life had a mom who did some, if not all, of these things, and i wholeheartedly believe he is so much the better for it. however, i would like to say that i think these aren’t just things to do for your son, but for all the men in your life. moms obviously set the foundation, but i’m sure brothers, boyfriends, and husbands (hopefully they aren’t one in...
that day i didn't listen to fear
so yesterday was the first day of 2012. i’d like to think it started of well, if not a bit uncharacteristically. we went to church (yay for sitting through a sermon for the first time in 1.5 months) and went home quickly, in order to prepare for the beginning of my insanity. I, along with 3 friends and about 45ish strangers, went swimming. Outside. In a lake. With 44 degree water, to be...

Today is the birthday of my favorite person in the entire world, Evan. In honor of him, here are 26 things I love about him.
1. I got my period at our wedding reception. Awesome planning, I know. E didnt miss a beat our entire honeymoon, letting me rest and sleep and vent and emote as much as I needed to. His patience and devotion those few days put me at ease and set the tone for our life...
