that day i didn’t listen to fear
so yesterday was the first day of 2012. i’d like to think it started of well, if not a bit uncharacteristically. we went to church (yay for sitting through a sermon for the first time in 1.5 months) and went home quickly, in order to prepare for the beginning of my insanity. I, along with 3 friends and about 45ish strangers, went swimming. Outside. In a lake. With 44 degree water, to be exact. That’s right, I took the Polar Plunge at Paris Mtn State Park at about 1:12 yesterday. Here is photo and video evidence:

It was freezing, almost literally. I had a few moments of anxiety, but not in a “I shouldn’t do this” kind of way, more of a “Oh man, this is crazy” kind of thing. I was really proud of myself afterwards, though. Especially when the circulation in my pinky toe came back (seeing an appendage of yours completely white and devoid of blood for 20 minutes sometimes can be scary) The rest of the day was also full of little victories, friends, fun, and (keeping with the uncharacteristic theme) a NAP (?!)
In short: yesterday was the beginning of the new year, but I’d like to think it points to so much more for the beginning of hundreds of new things.
